The head of the axe is in the shape of an elongated human head. It has eyes made from white glass beads. At the point that the haft and the head meet the blade projects. The first section is rod-like becoming a fan-shape. The design of the axe suggests that the blade is projecting out of the mouth of the 'head' finial. The haft curves slightly along its length and flares slightly towards its base.
