Proposal Description
At approximately 5h30 on the morning of 26 March 2014, there was a break-in at the East London Museum, 319 Oxford Street, East London, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. Criminals had cut the metal palisade fence to gain access to the museum grounds. They then smashed a window in order to gain entry into the museum. Three glass showcases were smashed in the Maritime Galley and a ceramic vase, plate and a small wooden box were removed. The plate and vase were both broken by the criminals and shards were found outside the museum. The wooden box was taken. Two showcases (perspex) in the Foyer Gallery were also smashed and all the meteorites (7 in total) in the cases were stolen.
