Proposal Description
A Wind Energy Facility (WEF) is proposed for an area in the Blue Crane and Makana Municipalities in the Eastern Cape, approximately 30km south east of Cookhouse. The study area is
to the east of the N10, and north of the R400. Two project options have been proposed, one with a capacity of 60MW, the other with an 80MW capacity. The heritage studies for these
WEFs and their associated infrastructure have been completed, subject to micrositing adjustments.
This study investigates the proposed grid connection routes for the WEF, both of which will comprise 2 x 132kV powerlines. The one route option is to Eskom’s Eskom’s existing
Poseidon substation (S -32.7433215007 ; E 25.9250168396) near Cookhouse, and the other to the new Kopleegte substation (S -32.8755384363 ; E 25.9982559615) near Bedford. A
132kV power line, with associated infrastructure already runs along the westernmost proposed route alignment.
