Proposal Description
In August 1976, The Security Police arrested her and upon Ms Winie Madikizela - Mandela release from “preventative detention” in December 1976, she was served with a banning order under the Terrorism Act, No. 83. After spending six months imprisoned at the Women’s Jail at the Old Fort upon her release on May 16, 1977, she was banished to Afrikaans dominated Brandfort, Free State, South Africa along with her youngest daughter Zindzi. The house in Brandfort was small, it had no electricity, running water, a bath, or a stove. The apartheid government considered her a dangerous leader and kept her under continual police scrutiny, whilst she was residing in Brandfort for eight years.
