    The soils of the alluvial flats in Hout Bay first provided seasonal grazing for the nomadic Khoe Khoen pastoralists, who probably first entered the Cape Peninsula about 2000 Years ago. the high visual quality of openness of the fields and river is important to the "sense of place" of these farmlands.
