    Proposal Description
The isolated historical rural village of Mvezo, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela's birthplace, is located in the Transkei's Umtata region on the undulating hills overlooking the Mbashe River Valley, with spectacular panoramic views towards the far hills and valleys. The old settlement's residents were forcibly moved to the top of a neighboring plateau in the 1960s. Mvezo's seven villages have a population of around 10,000 people. The old town has deteriorated since then. Some of the homesteads' ruins may still be seen.
Others are plainly visible, while others are scarcely discernible. All of it is rapidly decaying, including the remains of Mandela's house.
