    Proposal Description
Drill rotary rock core for sedimentological and geochemical analyses in proximity to Geoheritage site 208 on the farm Dycedale in the Barberton World Heritage Site. The drill hole (BASE-2) is one of 8 planned in the Barberton Greenstone Belt as part of a large international research project referred to as BASE (Barberton Archean Surface Environments) that is administrated by DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence CIMERA in the Geology Department (UJ) under a grant agreement between UJ and the International Continental Drilling Program (ICDP) consortium administrated by GFZ, Germany. Several overseas Universities/Institutes also provided funding. The other 7 holes are all distal from any Sarah registered Geosites in the WHS. This includes borehole BASE-3 on the farm Oosterbeek that was suggested to be close to a Registered Geosite. However according to our information and exact coordinates of this hole, to be drilled in an old quarry in a Sappi plantation, it is very distal to any registered Geosite.
