    Proposal Description
Rhino Andalusite Mine (“RAM”), a division of Imerys Refractory Minerals South Africa (Pty) Ltd (“Imerys”), has two coal-fired rotary dryers. RAM’s second dryer was installed in 2019 and commissioned early in 2020. RAM’s existing AEL does not make provision for its second dryer. To rectify this, Imerys is applying for the variation of its Atmospheric Emission License in terms of Section 46 and Section 22A of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act 39 of 2004 (NEM:AQA). The application was submitted on the South African Atmospheric Emission Licensing & Inventory Portal on 11 October 2021 (Submittal ID: 4320).

The NEM: AQA, requires AEL applicants to bring their applications to the attention of relevant organs of state, interested persons and the public.

Please see attached a notification letter for your attention. The notification provides you with an opportunity to submit comments or objections to the AEL application. Should you have any comments or objections to the AEL application, please forward these to us on or before 24 November 2021.
