Proposal Description
It is the intention of the mine to extract the coal seams that lie above the previously underground mined seams, by opencast mining methods.
Mining will consist of the removal of coal from the 2 seam. According to the CPR the thickness of 2 Seam intersected within the project area varies between 3.02m and 7.30m. it further describes the No 2 seam as having the best quality coal. With an average of 5.46m in thickness.Opencast mining using the truck and shovel lateral sequential rollover mining method will be undertaken. Mining will commence from the initial box cut. The soft overburden will be removed by mechanical methods. The hard overburden will be drilled and blasted and then removed by mechanical methods. The coal will be drilled and blasted prior to removal. Replacement of overburden materials into the mining pit will be according to the following sequence:
