Proposed Fairview Agricultural Development, on Farm 459, Somerset East Registration Division

The proposed development is to establish agricultural areas for the cultivation of fruit types like kiwis, and other citrus fruits, on areas currently classified as indigenous vegetation. A new off-stream balancing dam and pipeline infrastructure are also proposed.
As per Figure 3 in the report, the proposed development is for the following, which will be phased over a 5 year period:
• Transformation of 283ha of indigenous vegetation to cultivation areas for various fruit cultivars on Farm Fairview 459.
• A new pipeline from the Boschberg canal to a proposed off-stream balancing dam; the pipeline will cross eastwards over Portion 15 of Farm 92, Remaining Extent of Farm 378 Farm and then into Fairview 459, and
• A new off-stream balancing dam to store irrigation water on Farm Fairview 459, Somerset East, Eastern Cape.
