Proposal Description
Eland Platinum ("EP”), a wholly owned subsidiary of Northam, conducts mining operations at the Eland Platinum Mine ("EM"). The EM is an established (est. 2006) platinum group metals and chrome mining and processing operation.
EP has submitted an Environmental Authorisation ("EA") application under the NEMA EIA Regulations, 2014, as amended, to the North West Department of Economic Development, Environment, Conservation and Tourism (“NWDEDECT”), to construct and operate the Photovoltaic (“PV”) Solar Energy Project within the mining right area of the EM, to be known as the “PV Project”. The purpose of the PV Project is to generate electricity for use at the EM’s mining activities, offices, workshops, concentrator plant, laboratory, other auxiliaries, etc. Any excess power produced will be distributed to the national grid.
