The Uitkomst Colliery has been operational since 2006. Activities include underground bord-and-pillar mining, conveyance of coal to the Run of Mine (ROM) stockpile for full crushing, screening, and washing, with the resultant coal product sold to the local markets and exported. Discard is trucked to the co-disposal facility, while slurry is pumped to surface ponds on the co-disposal facility (Mine Residue Disposal Site, MRDS). The slurry is reclaimed and sold to interested markets where possible. The latest Stormwater Management features (as licensed per WUL issued 2022) will be incorporated into the revision of the EMP.

The Klipspruit Colliery will consist of a proposed Access Shaft, Stormwater Management features and supporting infrastructure. No material will be removed from the Access shaft and all supporting infrastructure present at Uitkomst will be utilised where and when necessary. Klipspruit Colliery will also need to apply for a Water Use License (WUL) before the onset of operations, which entails the compilation of an Integrated Water and Waste Management Plan (IWWMP) to be submitted to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS).

The Existing Environmental Management Plan (EMP) drafted in 2015 for the Uitkomst and Klipspruit Colliery will be updated with all the latest information, the proposed updates to the Uitkomst Colliery SWMP and the initially approved layout for Klipspruit Colliery be revised and reduced to that as described above.
