Proposal Description
The Strand Jetty was built in 1934 and as a result has formal heritage status in terms of the South African Heritage Resources Act. Due to its age and resultant increasing damage and deterioration, the jetty is no longer serviceable and poses a risk to any member of the public who may try and access it. Restoration of the jetty was estimated in excess of R30 million which was not considered financially viable at the time. Previous Case ID: 12502
As the SAHRA permit has expired, any further demolition of the jetty would require a new application.
