1549 Harmony FSN 1 Pipelines Project

The Applicant is planning to construct the following:

Two new return water pipelines (with a 600mm diameter and an average flow rate of 500 l/s), from FSN1 Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) Return Water Dam to D-Dam complex and two new return water pipelines (with a 600mm diameter and an average flow rate of 500 l/s) from D-Dam complex to Dam 13. The estimated length of the proposed return water pipelines is approximately 23.5 km.

Three new tailings pipelines (with a 450mm diameter and an average flow rate of 250 l/s), from Harmony One Plant to FSN 1 TSF. The estimated length of each of the proposed slurry pipelines is approximately 23 km and running along the same route/servitude.

One tailings pipeline (with a 550mm diameter and an average flow rate of 390 l/s), from Saaiplaas Plant, currently depositing onto St. Helena 123 TSF will be extended in future to the FSN1 TSF complex.

The pipelines will be flanged steel pipeline and installed above-ground on pre-cast concrete plinths and a 3.5m wide access road, adjacent to the pipelines, will be cleared/graded to provide access for construction, maintenance and inspections.

A booster pump station will be constructed at St Helena TSF Complex. The booster pump station will consist of pumps and electrical infrastructure to supply the pumps with power.

The proposed pipelines traverse the following farm portions: Klippan 14(2); Stuirmanspan 92(0, 1); Marmageli 20(0); St Helena 42(2); Vlakplaats 125(5); Jacobusrust 118(0); Goedgedacht 53(0)RE; Rheedesdam 31(0); Rietpan 17(0); Ouders Gift 48(0)RE; Vlakplaats 125(4)RE; Toronto 115(0)RE; Meribah 16(0); Vlakplaats 125(3); Theronia 71(1); Toronto 115(7); Welkom 41(11) and Welkom 41(20)RE. The project area is located within the Matjhabeng Local Municipality, Lejweleputswa District Municipality, Free State Province. A locality map is included below for ease of reference.
