Object Description
Woman with back facing viewer, in long flowing skirt, and up-do, doing up her corset. Appears to be a bedroom or lounge area, and there is a man seated to her right. Patterned covering on either the bed or couch, and there is also a framed picture of two people hanging to the left of the woman. Sumptuous, fluffy carpet/floor covering. One from a portfolio of twelve lithographs, protraying women Lautrec knew firsthand and the milieu in which they lived and worked. This series (Elles) of carefully observed brothel scenes thwarts the expectation of the titillating or the tawdry, instead presenting quiet moments of mundane intimacy
