The purpose of this application is to request permission to export samples from the archaeological site Boomplaas to the United States for further analysis of Magnetism to understand the site’s occupation intensity signals over time. This analysis will be helpful in reconstructing the Paleoclimate of Boomplaas. Archaeomagnetism is a method for analyzing magnetic materials widely used in archaeological contexts for dating, paleoclimatic reconstruction, and behavioral patterns such as using fire, occupation patterns, heat treatment and taphonomy of burnt rocks and stone tools, and sourcing (Herries, 2009).
