A shirt that has a distinct paisley print pattern style, silk batik technique similar to the Madiba Shirts, Nelson Mandela has become known for. It has a base colour of yellow and secondary colours being a mix of orange and black.
My mother was a minority shareholder in a company called Lindisign. She then purchased a wax statue from a Madame Tussauds designer based in Europe out of her own pocket as a loan to the company. Africa Rising Foundation was super impressed with the wax statue and thankful for Lindesigns efforts in publicising their father and therefore decided to donate the shirt to Lindisign. The company then became dormant and therefore the main shareholder/director settled the loan and interest by giving my mother the statue and shirt as settlement of the debt. My mother passed away and the statue and shirt was inherited by my sister and I.
The shirt was worn by former President Nelson Mandela at the launch of postal stamps issued by the South African Post Office held in his honour of his 90th birthday in 2008 in Johannesburg. There is another known occassion in which the shirt was worn by Mr Mandela and that was when Quentin Bryce, AC, the governor-general of the Commonwealth of Australia paid a courtesy call on Mr Nelson Mandela at the Nelson Mandela Foundation in March 2009.
