Object Description

REDUNDANT ASSET- Identical locomotive identified for preservation and relocation to the Bloemfontein storage facility. Locomotive GM # 2292 currently at the locomotive depot in Krugersdorp will be representing this class . The history of this class is captured in two publications which are kept in the museum as reference books - Locomotives of the South African Railways" by Leith Paxton and David Bourne and " Railways of Southern Africa 150 years," by Jean Dulez. Drawing(plans) and other information relating to this class is in safe custody at the Transnet Heritage Library.

In consultation with experts this locomotive was identified as not having any heritage significance. A similar locomotive representing this type/class of locomotive is preserved.
