REDUNDANT ASSET- Identical Locomotive - Class S2 # 3706 is preserved representing the S class locomotives, No 3706 is on display at the Transnet Transport Museum in George and forms part of the Transnet Collection. Two books " Locomotives of Southern Africa" by Leith Paxton andn David Bourne and "Railways of Southern Africa" by Jean Dulez describes the history of this class and is available at the museum . Drawings(plans) and other historical information relating to this locomotive class is in safe custody at the Transnet Heritage Library.
In consultation with experts this locomotive was identified as not having any heritage significance. A similar locomotive representing this type/class of locomotive is preserved.
