REDUNDANT ASSET - Identical locomotive Class 24 # 3668 is preserved at George and forms part of the Transnet collection while another 3 are on Loan agreement to preservation clubs. The history of this class is captured in two publications " locomotives of the South African railways" by Leith Paxton and David bourne and " Railways of Southern Africa 150 years by Jean Dulez. A copy of both publications are available at the museum for reference purposes. Locomotive drawings (plans) and other information relating to this class are in safe custody at the Transnet Heritage Library. Compliance to the NHRA will form part of the condition of sale.
In consultation with experts this locomotives was identified as not having any heritage significance. A similar locomotive representing this type/class is preserved. Request permission from SAHRA for alienation of this locomotive.
