SAHRA recommendations:Both sites 1 and 3 are older than 60 years but not older than 100 years. Therefore, if any impacts is expected on them, the Ngwao-Boswa Jwa Kapa Bokone (Northern Cape PHRA) must be informed. Sites 2, 4 and 5 are of low significance and the recording included in the report and in the Webley and Halkett's report from 2010 is sufficient to grant no further studies on these resources. A Fossil Finds Procedure as described in the PIA, and as per our previous comment dated 17 July 2013, must be included in the CMP. If any new evidence of archaeological sites or artefacts, palaeontological fossils, graves or other heritage resources are found during mining, SAHRA and a professional archaeologist or palaeontologist, according to the nature of the findings, must be alerted immediately to inspect the material. If the material deems to be of significance, the specialist will require a mitigation permit from SAHRA in terms of s. 35 of the National Heritage Resources Act (Act 25 of 1999). On receipt of a satisfactory mitigation (Phase 2) permit report from the archaeologist, SAHRA will make further recommendations in terms of the site such as its final destruction or additional sampling.
