Interim CommentSAHRA Archaeology, Palaeontology and Meteorites Unit agrees with the recommendations made in the heritage reports referenced above as follows:- No further heritage studies or mitigations are required. However as the servitude for the power line was not assessed SAHRA will require a report detailing the field assessment of the 132kV Eskom servitude once access is gained from land owner.- The Environmental Control Officer (ECO) and construction workers need to be aware and informed in induction of how fossils of the Vryheid formation look likes.- If any fossils are found during construction then construction must seize in the immediate area and the ECO must be informed, to which the ECO must inform SAHRA and contact a palaeontologist to examine the finds. However SAHRA cannot issue a final comment to this development until the Eskom Servitude for the 132kV power line is assessed for possible heritage resources.
