Final Comment
SAHRA Archaeology, Palaeontology and Meteorites (APM) Unit is satisfied with the submitted letter of exemption and is satisfied that the development will not impact on any heritage resources and should therefore be allowed to proceed. The following stipulations should, however, be included into the final Environmental Management Programme (EMP)
Should any heritage resources be identified (stone artefacts, Iron-Age artefacts, stone walling, foundations, burials and graves, or palaeontological specimens) then all construction should cease in the vicinity of the finds and SAHRA should be immediately notified of the finds (Nokukhanya Khumalo, Phillip Hine +27 462 4502) If unmarked human burials are uncovered, the SAHRA Burial Grounds and Graves (BGG) Unit (Mimi Seetelo 012 320 8490), must be alerted immediately. A qualified archaeologist or palaeontologist will then be required to assess the find (depending on the nature of the find) and further mitigation may then be required after acquiring the relevant permit from SAHRA.
