Interim comment
The SAHRA Archaeology, Palaeontology and Meteorites (APM) Unit reviewed the Scoping Report and requires a full HIA for further assessment and mitigation recommendations to be conducted as indicated in the Scoping Report.
The PalaeoSensitivity Map on SAHRIS (http://www.sahra.org.za/sahris/map/palaeo) indicates moderate to very high palaeontological sensitivity in the proposed area. Therefore the SAHRA APM Unit requires a field-based Palaeontological Impact Assessment to be submitted to the application for prospecting sites once they have been identified.
