Interim Comment
As the proposed development is located within a World Heritage Site Cultural Landscape, the surrounding landscape is inherently culturally sensitive. As such, SAHRA Archaeology, Palaeontology and Meteorites (APM) Unit requests that a Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) that complies with section 38(3) of the National Heritage Resources Act, Act No 25 of 1999 (NHRA) be completed as part of the BAR. The HIA must assess all heritage resources defined in section 3 of the NHRA. Included in the HIA, a Palaeontological Impact Assessment (PIA) inclusive of a field assessment must be conducted, a cultural landscape assessment and an assessment of the visual impact of the development to heritage resources. All the BAR appendices must be uploaded to the case in order to issue an informed comment. The HIA should also comply with the UNESCO Guidelines for HIAs within World Heritage Properties.
Further comments will be issued upon receipt of the above.
