South African Heritage Resources Agency (SAHRA) Archaeology, Palaeontology and Meteorites (APM) Unit cannot comment on this application because it is located in a region of Very High Palaeontological sensitivity according to the SAHRIS palaeomap and an assessment of impacts to palaeontological resources was not undertaken and as a coal mine, the operations of the mine will be impacting very highly sensitive fossiliferous rocks. The mine must undertake to commission a suitably qualified palaeontologist to carry out a Palaeontological Impact Assessment. The report must be submitted to SAHRA for commenting prior to the submission of the Final EIAr to the competent authority.
