SAHRA Response to Notification of Development
This application constitutes a section 38 (1) application for approval by SAHRA in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act, no 25 of 1999 (NHRA), as the proposed power line exceeds 300 metres in length.
The report is over 10 years old and assesses activities not proposed in this current case. The SAHRA cannot make informed decision on the current application based on the results of this report. The current power line application will pass across an existing cemetery and the DESD mentions potential impacts to the graves during construction. An archaeologist must be appointed to undertake a Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) and the report must be submitted before the case is processed further.
