Interim Comment
The SAHRA Archaeology, Palaeontology and Meteorites (APM) Unit requests that the HIA be revised to include the following:

As per section 38(3)a of the NHRA, a map of the identified heritage resources;
A description of the identified possible grave with photographs and as per section 38(3)b of the NHRA, an assessment of the cultural significance of the heritage resources;
To include discussions with regards to section 38(3)d and e of the NHRA;
As per section 38(3)g of the NHRA, recommendations for the mitigation of impact to identified heritage resources.

A section of the proposed powerline and pipeline were not assessed as per the tracklog on page 17 of the HIA. This section must be surveyed as part of the revised HIA.
A field-based PIA must be completed as part of the EA process as the proposed development area is located in an area of very high palaeontological sensitivity.
Further comments will be issued upon receipt of the above pending reports and the revised BAR to include the results of the revised HIA and PIA. The applicant is advised to extend the EA process in terms of section 19(1)b of the NEMA EIA Regulations in order to address this comment.
