Hout Bay Manganese Mine worked between 1909 and 1911 when 5130 tons of manganese ore was removed and exported to Belgium. The manganese occurs in a narrow lode up to 1.14 metres wide and hosted by sandstone of the Ordovician Peninsula Formation. The lode trends northwest for 600 metres on the slopes of Constantiaberg and was mined using adits and shallow open-cast pits.
