Statement of Significance

Site coincides with the angular unconformity between sandstone of the Table Mountain Group to the north and phyllite of the Malmesbury Group to the south. This is located along the R62 southwest of the entrance to the gorge. Spectacularly folded quartzitic sandstones of the Table Mountain Group can be seen throughout the 5 km-long gorge and the entire gorge should be preserved as a geoheritage site.
