Statement of Significance

In 1941 this school, which was founded in 1879, was renamed the Russell High School, in honour of Robert Russell, Superintendent of Education from 1878 to 1903. This late-nineteenth-century building complex forms a unique historical and architectural group and is closely associated with the development of education in Natal.
