Hout Bay’s modern history goes back to the establishment of a Dutch Settlement in 1652 but it was visited by the Portuguese and the British many years before. The Goringhaicona and previous nomadic Khoina clans may have frequented the area for a thousand years or more previously. Hout Bay is about 20 Km South of Cape Town on the Westward side of the Cape Peninsula, the most southern tip being the Cape of Good Hope. About 75% of the Peninsula is comprised of Table Mountain National Park, a World Heritage site in which Hout Bay is an enclave.
Table Mountain was recently acclaimed as as one of the modern “Natural Wonders of the World “. Hout Bay and Cape Town are rightly proud of the fact.
