Proposal Description
The bronze bust of Kgosi Khama 111 by Anton van Wouw is 51 cm high and was made during the the artist’s lifetime, most probably in 1935, at the Renzo Vignali Artistic Foundry. I understand that there are a number of examples of the bust including one owned by the Norval Foundation. Pretoria University also has a plaster cast.
I inherited the bronze which my late father Brian Gilfillan bought from Gaze Gallery, Ramsgate, South Coast Natal, South Africa in the late 1970’s. It was previously owned by the Crookes family who were involved in the sugar industry on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal. I have not lived in South Africa since 2002 and would like to export the item which I inherited.
