Proposal Description
The Khonjwayo Traditional Authority, with assistance from the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA), intends to develop chalets and additional supporting facilities at. A similar development was authorised by the Eastern Cape Department of Economic Development Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) on 12 March 2013, which included the development of eight (8) structures as part of the Mngcibe Eco-lodge, including an ablution facility within the restaurant / bar structure. This Environmental Authorisation (EA) that was issued for this development in 2013 has since lapsed hence the requirement to reapply for via an EIA process. The proposed site is located on the footprint of the old Mngcibe hiking tail huts, overlooking a small estuary, beach and communal soccer field.
