Proposal Description
Habitat Link Consulting (Pty) Ltd has been appointed by the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency (ECPTA), on behalf of the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality, to apply for an Environmental Authorisation (EA) for the proposed project. The proposed development will consist of the establishment of a new information centre, a paved walkway, benches, braai stands, a grassed camp site and three (3) ablution facilities along Mzamba Beach, near the Wild Coast Sun resort and casino. The development will take place over Farm 269 (Bizana administrative region) as well as partially within the coastal zone (beach area) administered by government. The site is situated along the Indian Ocean coastline, directly adjacent to the Wild Coast Sun, approximately 5 km south-west of Port Edward
The development will include a new information centre, a paved walkway, benches, braai stands, a grassed camp site and three (3) ablution facilities (Figure 4). Water will be obtained via a connection to the existing nearby hotel, while sewage will be reticulated to an existing sewer manhole. The environmental assessment process will look to align the proposed development with the sensitivities associated with the coastal area in order to protect the marine environment and to ensure that the proposed infrastructure is protected from coastal processes such as beach erosion, storm surges and future sea-level rise.
