    Proposal Description
The proposed interventions to the long barn involves the adaptive re-use of the building. The ground level will be used as office space either side of the central stables portion of the building. The stables portion is identified as general use and will be left as is, apart from repair and maintenance work. The loft area will be broken up into four office spaces.
Physical interventions include the new external openings making use of the irregular pattern of existing openings. Windows and doors are to be replaced with simple, glazed, steel-framed elements, which are recessed into the wall to minimise the visual impact of the aluminium frames and to emphasise the concept of wall punctures. The proposals make provision for the structural repair of the end gables and the addition of exterior masonry staircases to the loft space. The input of the structural engineer on the structural repair of the end gables makes provision for masonry external staircases to provide additional structural support.
