    Proposal Description
    Sibanye Gold Limited (Sibanye-Stillwater) is applying for an amendment of the Environmental Authorisation issued on 17 February 2009 by the Mpumalanga Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE), in accordance with Chapter 5, Part 2 of the 2014 EIA Regulations for the operations of the Burnstone Gold Mine.

    The Burnstone Gold Mine is located - 75km to the east of Johannesburg and - 6km east of Balfour in the Dipaleseng Local Municipality in Mpumalanga.

    The application will be made in terms of regulation 31 and 32 of the National Environmental Management Act (Act No. 107 of 1998): Environmental Impact Assessment Regulations (2014) as amended.

    The amendments that are being applied for relate to the following:
    • Construction of two additional ventilation shafts;
    • Construction of a new access road from the D2229 (Johnny Makoena Street) to the mine and the proposed ventilation shafts.

    The proposed new ventilation shafts and access roads are located on the Farm Vlakfontein 556 IR; Portions 5, 20 and 23; and Remainder of the Farm, held under the existing Mining Right (MR).
