Proposal Description
ABO Ndau Battery Energy Storage Facility (Pty) Ltd proposes the development of a Battery Energy Storage Facility and associated infrastructure located on Portion 19 of the Farm Rietvley No. 13, 27 km south-west of Polokwane within the Limpopo Province. The Proposed Development is located outside of an urban area with a current zoning that is agricultural in nature. It is envisaged that a change in zoning will be required from agricultural to special use. The BESF is intended to provide ancillary support to the existing Eskom network, as well as facilitate future renewable energy integration by means of peak-shaving. The BESF will either charge directly from the grid or from nearby Renewable Energy facilities during low demand/high PV generation and discharge during high demand/low PV generation.
A total Development Area for the BESF of approximately 3 ha has been defined in a manner which has considered the environmental sensitivities present on the affected property and which intentionally remains beyond highly sensitive areas.
