This permit application is for the destruction of Late Historical Period settlement remains named BP_HP01b BP_HP01c on the farm Kromrivierfontein 360 LT, in the Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality of the Limpopo Province. The heritage features will be impacted by the authorised construction of the PV solar facility and the associated infrastructure.
The site BP_HP01 is one of three homesteads and only two of the sites (BP_HP01b and BP_HP01c) will be disturbed by the development. Site BP_HP_01b will be partially destroyed, the graves near the settlement will be retained in situ. The site is characterised by the collapsed remains of a circular dwelling or hut constructed out of mid brick, clay and stone. These heritage features are assigned a field rating of Generally Protection C and low heritage significance.
The permit is to undertake test excavations, record any observations made in the test trench and on the surface as the Final record of the site. When ground clearance commences the permit holder must monitor ground clearance activities as part of the recording of the destruction of the site.
