Interim Comment
The SAHRA, Development Applications Unit notes the submitted letter of exemption from conducting a full Phase I HIA. However, the project is located within an area of moderate Palaeontological Sensitivity as per the SAHRIS PalaeoSensitivity map, a desktop study is required. The assessment must be undertaken by a qualified palaeontologist and the report must comply with the 2012 Minimum Standards: Palaeontological Components of Heritage Impact Assessments. The SAHRA will comment further on the application when the above-mentioned document is submitted. The applicant is advised to extend the EA process in terms of section 19(1) of the NEMA EIA regulations in order to address this comment.
