The Proposed Izimvu Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Associated Infrastructure near Rustenburg, North-West Province

Izimvu Energy Facility (RF) (Pty) Ltd, proposes the installation and establishment of the Izimvu Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Associated Infrastructure accommodate the storage of excess energy/electricity during low demand time periods that will evacuate the stored electricity into the national grid, via the existing Ararat 275/ 88 kV Substation, via the Rustenburg Industries 88/33 kV Substation1, during high demand/peak periods for electricity use. The associated infrastructure includes an on-site substation, roads, operation and maintenance buildings, fencing and other auxiliary infrastructure. The capacity of the BESS will be up to 100 MW and is proposed to be bid as part of the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) Bid Window 2 for the Battery Energy Storage Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (BESIPPPP). The development is proposed on Erf 2290, Rustenburg Extension 9 Township, situated within the Rustenburg Local Municipality, Bojanala Platinum District Municipality.
