The Proposed Tango Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Associated Infrastructure near Klerksdorp, North-West Province

Tango Energy Facility (RF) (Pty) Ltd, proposes the installation and establishment of the Tango Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and Associated Infrastructure to accommodate the storage of excess energy/electricity during low demand time periods that will evacuate the stored electricity into the national grid, via the existing Eskom Hermes Substation1, during high demand/peak periods for electricity use.
The associated infrastructure includes an on-site substation, roads, operation and maintenance buildings, fencing and other auxiliary infrastructure. The capacity of the BESS will be up to 100 MW and is proposed to be BID as part of the Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) BID Window 2 for the Battery Energy Storage Independent Power Producers Procurement Programme (BESIPPPP). The development is proposed on Portion 80 of the Farm Hartebeestfontein No. 42, Registration Division JP, situated within the City of Matlosana, formerly the City Council of Klerksdorp Local Municipality, Dr Kenneth Kaunda District Municipality, within the North-West Province.
