PROPOSED NGCOBO FARM HOUSING DEVELOPMENT

The Ngcobo Farm Housing Development has been initiated by Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Local Municipality as part of its Integrated Development Plan (IDP) process. The project is an effort to improve the living standards of the residents residing within the Ngcobo farm. T The project area largely consists of the existing rural settlements and is surrounded by tree plantations. There are, however, areas of grasslands remaining in small patches throughout the developed area on the steeper undeveloped slopes, around drainage lines and on the river floodplain. The remaining grassland area is the Southern KwaZulu-Natal Moist Grassland which is classified as endangered by the revised National list of Ecosystems that are threatened or in need of protection. Notably, the project area contains Critical Biodiversity Areas in the northern portion where the area has never been transformed or developed of about 9ha with 4.33ha of potential densification area. The proposed housing development is located on Portion 1 of Farm Lot S31C No. 7043, which is situated on a portion of Ward 15 of the Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma Local Municipality within the Harry Gwala District Municipality, KwaZulu Natal.
