THE UNLAWFUL DEVELOPMENT AND OPERATION OF 2 CHICKEN BROILER HOUSES ON FARM REEBOKFONTEIN WES 16/393, WITH A CAPACITY TO HOLD 56 000 CHICKENS PER HOUSE AND 2 NEW ADDITIONAL BROILER HOUSES WITH A CAPACITY TO HOLD 43 500 CHICKENS PER HOUSE.

EnviroMatrix Pty Ltd has been appointed in September 2021 as the Independent Environmental Consultants by Tradefair Two (Pty) Ltd to undertake 1) the application for rectification of the unauthorised development of their poultry facility, 2) the application for environmental authorisation for the proposed expansion of the poultry facility with 2 additional houses. The environmental assessment was done in terms of Section 24G of the National Environmental Management Act 107 of 1998 (NEMA) to rectify unauthorised undertaking as listed activities in terms of Government Notice Regulation No. R983 as amended.

Tradefair Two (The Applicant) has constructed 8 broiler houses in 1998 (before the proclamation of NEMA in 1998) on Farm Reebokfontein Wes 16/393. Each of these houses has the capacity to hold 56 000 chickens. In 2018 they expanded their operations with the construction of 2 broiler houses, each house with the capacity to hold 56 000 chickens. They have not acquired environmental authorization for the development; hence they intend to rectify the activity. The facility on farm Reebokfontein Wes 16/393 can hold approximately 311 000 chickens in total.

Additionally, Tradefair Two intends to expand their operations by constructing 2 additional broilers houses, each house with the capacity to hold 43 500 chickens. With this application the applicant intends to acquire rectification for the 2 houses constructed in 2018 as well as to acquire authorisation for the construction of 2 additional houses.

The farm Reebokfontein Wes 16/393 is located approximately 6km north of Klerksdorp in the City of Matlosana Local Municipality, Northwest Province. The existing chicken boiler houses and proposed expansion will be located at the following location: GPS Coordinates: 26°46'21.40"S; 26°38'45.48"E.
