Vangpan Solar PV Facility in the Lephalale Local Municipality, Limpopo Province (Electric Grid Infrastructure))

Green Gate Energy (Pty) Ltd is proposing the construction and operation of a Photovoltaic (PV) Solar Energy Facility and associated infrastructure on Portion 1 of the Farm Steenbokpan 295 LQ, Limpopo province. The project is located approximately 4km northeast of Steenbokpan and 42 km west of Lephalale, within the Lephalale Local Municipality and the Waterberg District Municipality.

The facility will have a contracted capacity of up to 230MW and will be known as Vangpan Solar PV. The project is proposed to be developed in two phases, with phase 1 comprising the construction of up to 60MW, and phase 2 comprising the construction of up to 170MW. For phase 1 power will be evacuated by a 132kV OHL to the Eskom Theunispan Substation located directly south of the site. This will be a radial feed from the new on-site facility substation to the Theunispan substation. Both phases of the Vangpan Solar PV project as well as the grid connection to the Theunispan Substation will be considered in one report (Scoping/EIA).
