Proposal Description
Pelagus Kroonstad (Pty) Ltd has appointed Environmental Management Group (EMG) (Pty) Ltd to conduct a Basic Assessment (BA) for the proposed development of a new filling station and truck stop on Erf 7749, Kroonstad, Free State Province. The proposed development falls within Moqhaka Local Municipality, which is under Fezile Dabi District Municipality's jurisdiction. The BA process will be carried out in accordance with the EIA Regulations of 2014 (as amended), which are promulgated in terms of the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA: Act No. 107 of 1998).
The proposed development aims to establish a state-of-the-art filling station and truck stop that will span over 3.225 hectares of land. This facility will feature modern infrastructure and cutting-edge equipment, designed to store, distribute, and manage various types of fuel products to meet the demands of commercial, industrial, and residential consumers within the region.
The site's current zoning is "Garage," with primary usage being a regional or service station (refer to Appendix 13). The facility will include a motorist and truck stop to cater to a broad range of customers. Additionally, the development will create employment opportunities and contribute to the growth of the local economy
The project consists of three phases. In the first phase, the plan is to create the foundation for the area by building the roads, sewage, water, and stormwater systems, as well as the electrical system. The second phase includes the construction of an office building, a convenience shop, a tank, and a pump for trucks, a canopy for trucks, a fire water pump, a CCTV system, ATMs, public parking, and an electrical system for the office building. The third phase involves the construction of fast-food restaurants, an office building, a backup generator, a pump and canopy for cars, recreation rooms, lodging, a wash bay for cars and trucks, a mechanic on site, and a tire repair and sales centre.
