Proposed Development of the Proposed Aalwyn (Ngwedi) Grid and Associated Infrastructure to be Located near Rustenburg, in the North West Province

The Aalwyn Energy Facility Project comprises of a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) facility with ancillary and associated infrastructure (authorised separately), a substation (approximately 1.5ha), a grid connection corridor (approximately Option 1: 3.8km, Option 2: 4.76km, Option 3: 4.5km, Option 4: 6km in length which will include a 32m wide powerline servitude within) and an access road (approximately 10m – 12m in width and 222m in length). This project is considered as a vital initiative with the specific aim to open up the grid capacity and assist in alleviating the recurring issue of load shedding experienced by Eskom.
