    Proposal Description
Glencore Eastern Mines (“Glencore”) is located situated approximately 30 km south of Steelpoort and about 33 km west-northwest of Lydenburg in the Limpopo Province. Glencore holds the mineral rights for chromium and platinum group minerals on the farm Thorncliffe 374 KT and chrome rights on the farm Helena 6JT (LP 30/5/1/2/2/176 MR). Glencore also holds chrome rights in the LG and MG Chromite Seams (excluding all minerals in the Merensky and UG2 reefs) on the farms Richmond 370 KT and St George 2 JT.

A mine ventilation shaft is proposed on the remaining extent ("RE") of the farm Helena 6JT for the Helena underground mine operations. The ventilation shaft will require an area of 50m X 50m in size (0.25ha). Indigenous vegetation will need to be cleared on an area larger than 300 m2 (but less than 1 ha) and triggers a listed activity in terms of the NEMA EIA regulations (EIA listing notice 3). An access road to the site proposed for development already exists, however a short access road from the existing road to the ventilation shaft site (+- 25m long) will need to be constructed.
