THE PROPOSED ZANDRIVIER SOLAR 3 PHOTOVOLTAIC SOLAR ENERGY FACILITY AND ASSOCIATED INFRASTRUCTURE NEAR POLOKWANE, LIMPOPO PROVINCE

Zandrivier Solar 3

The Applicant, Zandrivier Solar 3 (Pty) Ltd, is proposing the construction of a photovoltaic (PV) solar energy facility (known as Zandrivier Solar 3) located on Portion 2 of the Farm Zandrivier No. 742 approximately 16 km southwest of Polokwane in the Limpopo Province. The solar PV facility will comprise several arrays of PV panels and associated infrastructure and will have a contracted capacity of up to 100 MW. The development area is situated within the Polokwane Local Municipality within the Capricorn District Municipality.

Two additional solar PV facilities (Zandrivier Solar 2 and Zandrivier Solar 3) are concurrently being considered on nearby properties and are assessed through separate Scoping and Environmental Impact Assessment (S&EIA) processes.

The solar PV facility will comprise several arrays of PV panels and associated infrastructure including
- PV modules and mounting structures
- Inverters and transformers
- Battery Energy Storage System (BESS)
- Site and internal access roads
- Operation and Maintenance buildings including a gate house and security building, control centre, offices, warehouses and workshops for storage and maintenance.
- Temporary and permanent laydown area
Facility grid connection infrastructure, including:
• Cabling between the project components and the facility substation;
• A facility substation;
• A Eskom collector switching station; and
• Loop-in-Loop-out (LILO) overhead power line
