Varsche Rivier (VR): ostrich eggshell and OES bead export and sampling

In this application we request permission export for analysis materials from the archaeological sites on Varsche Rivier Farm 260, VR001, VR003 and VR005. These are 375 samples of unworked OES, 233 OES bead fragments, 21 flaked OES fragments, and 63 small and small/medium bovid teeth. Analyses of these items will achieve four primary aims:
1) To explore changes in resource catchment through the LSA using strontium isotopes.
2) To refine the paleoenvironmental sequence through carbon, nitrogen, and oxygen stable isotope analysis.
3) To refine the site chronology through radiocarbon analysis.
4) To better understand varying properties of OES beads and worked OES through use wear and visual residue analyses and a detailed recording of important attributes.
